After the tensions and skirmishes along the Indo-China
border, the Modi government is hurting the Chinese business continuously and
efforts are being made to reduce dependence on Chinese imports. In this
sequence, the government has now increased the safeguard duty on imported solar
panels and cells for one year and taxes have been imposed on the import of many
items. China will suffer the most from this, as a large part of
solar panels and cells are imported from China.
Curb the import of these items
Apart from this, the government has imposed import tax on
printing plates and raw materials used in making industrial chemicals. Not only
this, digital offset printing plates and aniline have oil also been imported.
Significantly, the government had earlier announced that
about 15 percent of the safeguard duty on solar panels and cells will be
imposed by July 29. Now it has been extended for a year.
What was said in the notification
According to the notification issued by the Ministry of
Commerce, for the first six months, the safeguard duty on solar panels and
cells will be 14.9 percent, after which it will be reduced slightly to 14.5
percent. Apart from China, safeguard duty has also been imposed on solar items
coming from Vietnam and Thailand. Similarly, anti-dumping duty has been imposed
on digital offset printing plates coming from Vietnam, Taiwan, South Korea and
Japan.
Significantly, in the month of June, 20 brave soldiers of
our country were martyred in the violent clash on the Indo-China border. Since
then, there is tension in the relationship between the two countries. The Indian government is continuously trying to give economic and business shocks
to China.
Earlier, the Indian government banned the import of color
television sets. Color televisions were imported from China on a large scale.
But now the government has banned it with immediate effect.
Crores of retail and wholesale traders of the country on
Wednesday launched a campaign to boycott imported goods from China. Through
this campaign, the traders plan to reduce the import bill from China by
December 2021 by 1 lakh crore rupees.
The list has been made
Under the Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT), traders
have made a list of about 3,000 such items which are imported from China in
large quantities, but whose options are available or can be manufactured in
India. The items CAIT has listed include mainly electronic goods, FMCG
products, toys, gift items, confectionery products, clothing, watches and many
other plastic products.
