Shock to Chinese business : Safeguard Duty on Solar Panel-Cell Increased For One Year

After the tensions and skirmishes along the Indo-China border, the Modi government is hurting the Chinese business continuously and efforts are being made to reduce dependence on Chinese imports. In this sequence, the government has now increased the safeguard duty on imported solar panels and cells for one year and taxes have been imposed on the import of many items. China will suffer the most from this, as a large part of solar panels and cells are imported from China.

Apart from this, the government has imposed import tax on printing plates and raw materials used in making industrial chemicals. Not only this, digital offset printing plates and aniline have oil also been imported.

Significantly, the government had earlier announced that about 15 percent of the safeguard duty on solar panels and cells will be imposed by July 29. Now it has been extended for a year.

What was said in the notification


According to the notification issued by the Ministry of Commerce, for the first six months, the safeguard duty on solar panels and cells will be 14.9 percent, after which it will be reduced slightly to 14.5 percent. Apart from China, safeguard duty has also been imposed on solar items coming from Vietnam and Thailand. Similarly, anti-dumping duty has been imposed on digital offset printing plates coming from Vietnam, Taiwan, South Korea and Japan.

Significantly, in the month of June, 20 brave soldiers of our country were martyred in the violent clash on the Indo-China border. Since then, there is tension in the relationship between the two countries. The Indian government is continuously trying to give economic and business shocks to China.

Earlier, the Indian government banned the import of color television sets. Color televisions were imported from China on a large scale. But now the government has banned it with immediate effect.

Crores of retail and wholesale traders of the country on Wednesday launched a campaign to boycott imported goods from China. Through this campaign, the traders plan to reduce the import bill from China by December 2021 by 1 lakh crore rupees.

Under the Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT), traders have made a list of about 3,000 such items which are imported from China in large quantities, but whose options are available or can be manufactured in India. The items CAIT has listed include mainly electronic goods, FMCG products, toys, gift items, confectionery products, clothing, watches and many other plastic products.
