The United Nations World Food Program (WFP) has been named for the Nobel Prize for Peace 2020 for its efforts to combat hunger and improve peace and conditions in conflict-affected areas. The announcement was made by Berit Rees-Andersen, chairman of the Nobel Committee in Oslo.
The World Food Program expressed happiness over winning the Nobel Peace Prize 2020, saying "a proud moment ... is nothing short of an achievement". This organization based in Rome has helped approximately 97 million people spread across 88 countries. The organization claimed that one in nine people worldwide do not have enough food to eat.
Norwegian Nobel Committee Chairman Berit Rees-Andersen has stated, according to a Reuters report, that "the need for international solidarity and multilateral cooperation is clearer than ever."

The Nobel committee said in its citation that "the coronovirus epidemic has contributed to a huge increase in the number of starvation victims in the world ... until we have a medical vaccine, the best vaccine against food chaos is".
"There is an estimate within the World Food Program that ... there will be 265 million hungry people within a year, so certainly it is a call for the international community not to reduce the World Food Program as well."
Rees-Anderson stated that the WFP is a driving force in the growing outbreak of COVID-19 in efforts to curb the use of hunger as a weapon of war and conflict.
This year 318 nominations were presented for the Nobel Peace Prize, which included 211 individuals and 107 organizations.
New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern, Russian President Vladimir Putin, Swedish teen activist Thunberg, US President Donald Trump, to name a few. However all names are always kept secret. But the secrecy surrounding the names has never stopped speculation.
The award will be presented to the World Food Program (WFP) in Oslo on 10 December, with 10 million Swedish crowns, or about $ 1.1 million.
